Alan Wake, being a writer himself, gave me an opportunity to use what I do and love as a writer as an element in the story. This story and character were personal in many ways. Combat revolves largely around flashlights, which are used to weaken The Taken and open them up to traditional weaponry such as pistols and shotguns. Wake is a best-selling thriller novelist who must fight off dark entities called The Taken after his wife goes missing in the small, fictional town of Bright Walls, Washington.
